Specialist, External Collaborations EU (T&I)

THE DEPARTMENT

Operational Excellence (OE) maximizes the value creation of T&I. We enable an ever increasing effectiveness and efficiency of the entire T&I organization. Operational Excellence provides leadership across sites, better utilization of resources, enhances external collaborations, focuses on T&I’s innovation portfolio, and enables a collaborative organization that focuses on sustainable and disruptive innovations.

The External Collaboration Team develops and executes strategies that drive collaborations with stakeholders, applies best practices with academic partners and develops long lasting relationships with top universities around the world.

We collaborate with both junior and most senior researchers in all locations globally, manage T&I research agreements and contracts with universities and institutes and lead the continuous improvements of SABICs academic collaborations.

JOB PURPOSE

• Establish and execute global strategic partnerships with universities, research institutes and companies.
• Contribute and provide research support to innovation projects, acquire new competencies, scout new opportunities and extent T&I capacity via external collaborations, whilst accelerating time to market.
• Enhance SABICs brand in the technical and innovation community, specifically in the academia.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the External Collaborations Department which is to build a strategic university collaboration portfolio that maximizes innovation value delivery, aligning to T&I’s One Portfolio, ad competency needs
• Responsible for establishing all the T&I’s external research collaborations and partnerships with international universities, research institutes and consortia in support of the research outsourcing needs of T&I Technologies, and also developing a management database
• Responsible for developing and maintaining the collaborations database and tools for monitoring, evaluation and management of external programs.
• Accountable for negotiating agreements and contracts in close guidance and coordination with the Legal Dept. and Technical project owners.
• In charge of executing and maintaining all Umbrella Research Agreements with key global universities, institutes and companies.
• Managing implementing and monitoring agreements and contracts for compliance with the Legal and Technical colleagues.
• Responsible for building, establishing and maintaining long-term relationships with potential national and international organizations.
• Interface with T&I’s top and prestigious corporate/research fellows, scientists and engineers as well as Strategic Innovation Committee (SIC) members to identify, select and establish top-notch external research programs globally.
• Driving flawless execution all academia related contracts.
• Managing relationships with Academia and identifying new opportunities
• Key metrics include Correlation % university contract with research projects, $ invested, # competencies and # opportunities identified and  University performance monitoring,

KEY COMPETENCIES

• Solid technical background in Polymers and Chemicals, with analytical mindset.
• Strong negotiation and deal making skills.
• Ability to understand contracts and their implications
• Strong team player with ability to work with internal stakeholders globally
• Ability to provide education and training, globally
• Knowledge of SBU business, strategy and related technology drivers are preferable.
• Understanding of scientific fields and Intellectual Property (IP) relevant to SABIC.
• Good understanding of designated SBU and T&I technology drivers.
• Affinity with universities and academia

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum Bachelor’s (and/or Technical Degree equivalent) Degree in Engineering/Science, MSc (or Phd) preferred
• Several years of experience in SABIC or similar company, preferable in a technical role.
• Fluency in English (both written and oral) other additional European language(s) a bonus

Location: STC Geleen, The Netherlands

Travel: 25% (regionally and globally)
