DEPARTMENT

The NL Controllership organization is responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring IFRS compliance at all time in all internal and external reporting streams, providing timely and technically sound IFRS analyses and opinions on any relevant IFRS complex matters, demonstrating reasonable assurance and establishing sufficient internal controls over financial reporting;
  • Preparing the statutory financial statements of several SABIC subsidiaries

JOB PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES

As team member of the NL Controllership team, you will be responsible for preparing the financial statements of a number of legal entities within the SABIC group in compliance with local GAAP.

You need to understand business dynamics and perform in depth analysis of the financials to ensure that the monthly IFRS group numbers are fairly stated before consolidation and various financial processes that apply to your entities. Your role is to identify risk areas for your ledger and make sure you have appropriate controls in place. In addition, Ad hoc projects are also part of your role and you will support any managerial reporting where needed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Mainly statutory reporting of Dutch legal entities and time-to-time support other countries with their financial statements.
  • Align & manage the external auditing procedures of the financial statements where applicable and support heavily the quarterly IFRS group audits
  • Ensure closing and financial reporting for all legal entities in the Netherlands
  • Perform analysis of SABIC‘s financial performance on legal entity level. Understand sales, costs trends, understand in detail the balance sheet positions. Your assessment of fairly stated is key.
  • Provide financial advice to management teams of legal entities in respective regions including upfront IFRS advice in business decisions. Address going concern, negative cash issues.
  • Evaluate material business transactions based on business insights, and provide posting instructions to Global Financial Operations (GFO).
  • Provide improvement input on reconciliations, prepared by GFO to increase quality and standardization
  • Manage risk levels by obtaining assurance on B/S and P/L
  • Ensure compliance of legal entity financial reporting with SABIC accounting principles
  • Define period-end adjustments for all legal entities in respective regions
  • Review and approve handling of local regulatory financial reporting requirements
  • Validate and internally sign off IFRS financial statements/ Local GAAP statements
  • Effectively interact, where applicable, with external advisors ensuring quality of deliverables and best in class cost profile of the services received;
  • Engage and manage the relationship with business finance team and leadership to ensure all the necessary regional information is complete, relevant and in line with high quality standard (sell-side);
  • Actively interact in the audit process (external auditors & internal auditors);
  • Engage and support the quarterly group audits, interim audit, pre-close audit, hard-close audit, yearend audit, CAP lists and subsequent audit procedures within the entire organization.

General and strategic aspects:

  • Build and develop an effective relationship with the relevant counterparts inside and outside the corporate finance organization
  • On an ongoing basis, challenge the current reporting processes status quo to identify improvement opportunities; suggest and support design and implementation of operational improvements that will positively affect upon service and cost performance;
  • Promote finance teams knowledge with the rest of the Controllership team to improve the quality of reporting by sharing best practices.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Education and background in Finance/Accounting
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural and hybrid environment
  • Knowledge of IFRS and Dutch GAAP practice
  • Proven track record in transaction service processes and best practice is required
  • Strong communication and analytical thinking.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in finance department of large company environment
  • Good knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel proficiency
  • Accounting statutory requirements (IFRS)
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; multiple language ability an advantage
  • Team player
  • Eagerness to learn

The location for this role can be either of the three- Sittard/ Bergen op Zoom/ Geleen.
