Senior Specialist, Technology Ventures EUR
JOB PURPOSE:
The purpose of the role is twofold: (a) ‘Bottom-up’: To create deal flow within the strategic areas of interest to SABIC; and (b) ‘Top-down’: To lead and manage the regional interface with internal need owners (i.e. SBU’s and Corporate Programs) and external (technology) innovation solution providers.
Main Responsibilities:
- Responsible for creating deal flow in the strategic areas of interest for SABIC within Europe
- Responsible for screening of joint development, investment, licensing-in and acquisition opportunities starting from hunting grounds of SABIC’s Corporate Platforms and SBU’s.
- Conducts preliminary evaluation of the technology, its use, its uniqueness as well as applicability to SABIC’s existing and future strategic businesses (strategic fit) and the level of commercial feasibility.
- Responsible for taking prompt decisions to kill obvious non-feasible opportunities at early stage before they go to sponsors; thus helping to provide focus on feasible opportunities. This also implies that the role is responsible to have upfront understanding of SBUs or Corporate Platforms technology needs and constraints.
- Responsible for following the deal flow process and required documentation.
- Responsible for developing a strategy for interfacing and interacting with potential solution providers, developing preliminary assessments vs. strategy and providing shortlists of potential solutions to the need owner.
- Responsible for building and maintaining internal relationships with functions required for deal flow process, such as domain technology experts within T&I, Legal Counsels and with SBU’s. Follow up on strategic value delivery

- Ability to influence SABIC Europe and Global Partner(s)
- Ability to balance supportive/steering activities at Site and European level including go to for Advice by local manager(s)
- Ability to work and influence in multi-cultural, diverse Global Community whilst aligning with local and global policy and legal directives
- Ability to promote local and global corporate values
- Strong Entrepreneurial and Business Acumen working cross business and function(s)
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Technical Degree, Bachelor and/or Master’s Degree or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering or Petchem related stream.
- Training in business development, corporate finance and legal agreements.
- Minimum 10-15 years of industrial experience in (petro)chemical industries
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in a technology development-related job.
- Preferably experience with new business development/starting technology ventures.
- Technical know-how: chemicals & materials technology, biotechnology and energy technology.
- Professional know-how: broad understanding of strategy development, innovation, corporate finance and Legal (venturing).
- Good understanding of SABIC strategy, businesses/SBUs and needs (e.g. technology roadmaps).
- Strategic decision making: able to take decisions on what is relevant for SABIC 5-10 y from now.
- Innovative and lateral thinker, can think out of the box and dares to challenge status quo.
- Builds strategic working relationships: Strong networker, both inside and outside SABIC.
- Builds partnerships: Explores options for both parties in a creative and constructive manner. Represents the company in a professional manner.
- Organize for success: Ability to drive initiatives across the entire SABIC organization to induce/strengthen the innovation focus and capabilities.
- Fluency in English (both written and verbal) additional European language(s) a bonus
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
Location: STC-Geleen, The Netherlands
Travel: 25% - 50% (regionally and globally)
