Department

Global Performance Polymers (PP) Technology is part of Petchem Technology and it includes the PP Product & Material Science department. In this department, PP Product delivers PP material development solutions, whereas Material Science delivers material competences enabling solutions for the different Product Lines and Segments. Additionally the department takes care of the Polymer Processing at STC Geleen.

One of the competences within Material Science relates to polymer rheology in relation to material characterization and melt-processing behavior.

Within the Material Science team located in STC Geleen, we are looking for a Rheology specialist.

Job Purpose & Responsibilities

The candidate will champion the rheology competence and support the needs of the different Product Lines and Segments.

The main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Strong interaction with the different product-lines and segment specialists, contributing with rheology expertise for the final product and/or application.
  • As rheology specialist you will work closely with material scientists and processing specialists to close on research projects that involve rheology related challenges.
  • Advice on rheology related matters in general.
  • Drive innovation through state-of-the-art rheology competency and related disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain external networks on rheology, in relation to material and melt-processing needs.
  • Deliver on project milestones in an integrated and multi-disciplinary approach with other Technology departments.
  • Coaching scientists
  • Provide support to the business and manufacturing as needed, to help troubleshoot and optimize performance.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Material Science or a related discipline.
  • Laboratory experience with in-depth knowledge of rheological techniques is a must.
  • Ability to model molecular architecture to rheological behavior and to translating into a computer script is appreciated.
  • Broad knowledge of molecular characterization techniques for polymers.
  • Skills in statistical experimentation and data analysis methods.
  • Self-driven and proactive with the ability to identify and lead innovative opportunities.
  • Ability to think creatively and communicate complex technical ideas effectively in both technical and commercial environments.
  • Critical observer as well as a conceptual and analytical thinker.
  • Team player being able to drive, operate and communicate in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The position requires excellent written and oral English communication skills.
