Material Developer - Polypropylene

JOB PURPOSE:

This team is part of Global PP Technology, which in turn is part of Polymers Technology & Innovation. Global PP Technology covers all aspects of the PP production cycle, from catalysis to compounding. Within Global PP Technology, the PP Product team is responsible for the neat PP material development. This PP either serves our customers directly, or it is used in compounds. The STC-Geleen PP Product team has close interactions with the manufacturing teams in Geleen (NL) and Gelsenkirchen (DE), as well as with the business and market-facing parts of the organization.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment with supportive colleagues, and enjoy a mix of short-term application focused material development and more fundamental research.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The candidate will champion polypropylene material development and support the needs of the PP Product Line. The main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Optimizing the existing portfolio, developing new innovative products, assisting our manufacturing organization and our marketing organization in bringing products to market, and our clients in processing those products.
  • Improving the quality of the material development done at SABIC by implementing new test methods and/or building up fundamental knowledge on polypropylene
  • Addressing new product concepts as well as related emerging areas, targeting a continuous innovation and improved sustainability of our portfolio in the market.
  • Translating functional market application requirements via product specifications into molecular structure/morphology, integrating relevant state-of-the-art expertise in the fields of for instance rheology, fracture mechanics, polymer processing and analytical methods.
  • Advice on PP product related matters.
  • Deliver on project milestones in an integrated and multi-disciplinary approach with other Technology departments.
  • Provide support to the business and manufacturing as needed to help troubleshoot and optimize performance.

  • Ability to influence SABIC Europe and Global Partner(s)
  • Ability to balance supportive/steering activities at Site and European level including go to for Advice by local manager(s)
  • Ability to work and influence in multi-cultural, diverse Global Community whilst aligning with local and global policy and legal directives

  • Strong Entrepreneurial and Business Acumen working cross business and function(s)

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Expertise in polyolefin materials and characterization techniques, preferably for polypropylene, either gained through Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Material Science, Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry or a related field
  • Excellent Conceptual, Communication and Analytical Skills
  • Fluency (both written and Oral) in English (any addition European language(s) a bonus)
  • In depth knowledge of interconnecting Business Units and Functions across Industry
  • Excellent presentation and network skills
  • Proficiency in IT/various connecting IT systems such as Office, SAP, reporting, etc
  • Experience with working in multi cultural and diverse environment and influencing and engaging at senior management level
  • Certification under PMI – Project Management Professional
  • Project leadership/management experience
  • Minimum 3 years in relevant field
  • Approachable, able to work in a team and communicate complex technical ideas effectively in both technical and commercial environments
  • Able to translate market requirements into technical questions and to design the most efficient experimental/simulation pathway to answer these questions

Location: Geleen, The Netherlands

Travel: 25% (regionally and globally)
