In Europe, the SABIC Technology Center Europe (STC-E) is based in Geleen (The Netherlands) and Wilton (United Kingdom). The primary activity of Decarbonization Technology Deployment department is to define, deploy and implement technology development projects aimed at the optimization and improvement of existing petrochemical processes with respect to Carbon Neutrality, globally. The team is the SABICs global expertise center to mature SABIC technical knowledge and address risks to enable implementation of externally proven Carbon Neutral technology options and implement internally developed CN technologies.

T&I Petrochemicals consists of more than 750 employees across six Technology Centers around the world. The T&I organization supports SABIC’s global businesses in realizing its objectives by providing best-in-class technology solutions.

We are looking for a process engineer to join our team. The role is reporting to the Sr. Manager Decarbonization Technology Deployment.

Job Purpose & Responsibilities

As a Lead Scientist, you will be working and Leading in the Decarbonization Technology Deployment department as part of the professional, global T&I organization. You will be based in Geleen.

Your tasks and responsibilities include:

  • To define and execute technology improvement projects to enhance the performance of existing chemical plants (Globally) in terms of energy, material efficiency and CO2 emissions.
  • Shape Carbon Neutrality technology strategy by providing technical input on CN technologies for all chemical products to BU and affiliates.
  • Scout and analyze Carbon Neutrality technologies under developed or developed at Universities, Institutes and companies.
  • To work in a multidisciplinary setting within the Technology organization where you will collaborate with different disciplines in the business and manufacturing environment where project approval, execution and implementation needs to be secured.
  • To deliver the models and conceptual designs of process modifications to improve production and performance in terms of output, energy, carbon neutrality and costs.
  • Guide team(s) both internally and externally indirectly
  • Support Management Team(s) with addition responsibilities

Ability to influence SABIC Europe and Global Partner(s)

  • Ability to balance and lead supportive/steering activities at Site and European level including go to for Advice by local manager(s)
  • Ability to work and influence in multi-cultural, diverse Global Community whilst aligning with local and global policy and legal directives
  • Ability to promote local and global corporate values
  • Strong Entrepreneurial and Business Acumen working cross business and function(s)

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor and/or Master’s Degree, PDEng or ideally PhD or Equivalent in Chemical Technology/Engineering
  • You have a minimum of 5 – 10 years’ experience in industrial process engineering research and preferably specialized into energy optimization.
  • You have preferably experience in modeling of chemical processes and the use of computational tools such as ASPEN Plus or ASPEN Utilities. You are knowledgeable about thermodynamics, energy/exergy analysis and sustainability.
  • You have demonstrated your experience within process development in an industrial research and development environment.
  • You are able to keep abreast of the state of the art in process technology and gain knowledge of associated fields and disciplines.
  • You have lead (either indirectly or directly) a team and play an important key role as a team player as well as able to work independently on your contribution.
  • You like to work in a global and multi-cultural environment and respect other cultures.
  • You have a persevering and challenging attitude towards your work environment, but you can also accept other views.
  • You are a critical observer as well as a conceptual and analytical thinker.
  • You are able to spot opportunities and translate these into value propositions for the business.
  • You are able to present your project proposals and results in a convincing manner to both business and manufacturing management.
  • You are fluent in oral and written English (additional European languages a bonus)

Location: Geleen-Brightlands Campus-Chemelot, The Netherlands

Travel: 10 - 15% (regionally and globally)
