Chief Urea Technology Expert

DEPARTMENT

SABIC is a significant player in the fertilizers industry. The product range includes urea, ammonia, and a comprehensive portfolio of nitrogen-based inorganic products.

JOB PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Urea Technologist is expected to Initiate, Propose and Execute research and development, Debottlenecking/Revamp, Energy saving, Sustainability improvement programs directed towards the improvement of processes and commercial technologies. Lead in-house new process technology development, scale up & implementations in commercial plants. Provide technology support to commercial plants for the shutdown, turnover, and re-commissioning as needed. Provide trouble-shooting & Root cause analysis support and drive problem resolution for commercial plants. The technologist is also expected to provide support in Growth Projects

  • Provide trouble-shooting & Root cause analysis support and drive problem resolution for commercial plants
  • Development of Plant wide Model in Aspen Plus or like and Guide the Plant Improvements/Performance
  • Participate in in-house new process technology development, scale up & implementations in commercial plants
  • Carry out Energy and mass balance calculations, Energy Optimization/Pinch Studies, Pump hydraulics calculations, Heat exchanger design & calculations, Various Catalyst performances evaluation, Feasibility study & Revamp study
  • Independently Review Engineering Documents & Steer
  • Design and supervise pilot plant experimental runs for the assigned tasks including preliminary reviews, data interpretation and final reporting
  • Collect and interpret plant process data and make recommendations for improvements and ensure work is standardized and processes are optimized
  • Actively contribute to plant safety and quality programs.
  • Problem solving/Decision making: Urea Technologist is expected to wholistically support the plant performance with various dimensions such as reliability improvement, energy optimization, TSRs & Incorporate the new advancements in our plants, develop proposals and execute
  • KPIs: Plant Performance Improvement, New Technological Advancements, Support to Growth Projects, Energy Targets

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ability to influence SABIC Europe and Global Partner(s)
  • Ability to balance supportive/steering activities at Site level
  • Contribute to Manufacturing projects across Middle East, Far East, Africa and the US
  • Ability to work and influence in multi-cultural, diverse Global Community whilst aligning with local and global policy and legal directives
  • Ability to promote local and global corporate values

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Master’s Degree or Equivalent (ideally Postgrad or equivalent) in Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering and/or Technical Equivalent
  • Excellent Conceptual, Communication and Analytical Skills
  • Fluency (both written and Oral) in English (Arabic would be a bonus)
  • Minimum Experience : Masters + 15 years or PhD + 10 years on Technology Development, Plant Support, Modeling and Optimization
  • In depth knowledge of Technology, Urea Products, strategic processes, performance management, project management and related IT systems
  • In depth knowledge of interconnecting Business Units and Functions across Industry
  • Excellent presentation and network skills
  • Proficiency in IT/various connecting IT systems such as Office, SAP, reporting, etc
  • Experience with working in multi cultural and diverse environment and influencing and engaging at senior management level
  • Highly self motivated
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel

Location: Geleen, The Netherlands (other European Manufacturing site(s) could be considered)

Travel: 25 – 40% (regionally and globally)
