The Analytical Science team is part of the SABIC Corporate Technology and Innovation (T&I) organization, with 10 locations across the globe. The Analytical Science team provides a broad range of technical input for innovation projects, manufacturing issues, and customer solutions via differentiated solutions in the area of chemicals and materials analysis. The team (currently ~130 FTE) works across organizations and functions to help solve technical challenges in a project-based organization for multiple SBUs, Corporate, Customer, and Manufacturing needs.
We are looking for a Chief Scientist for our global Analytical Science team. This job is located in Geleen, the Netherlands.
SABIC is looking for a technically-creative Chief Scientist in the Analytical Sciences who is seeking the opportunity to apply his/her talents to identify synergies between the SABIC Global Analytical Science team and Corporate & Business-facing R&D teams, anticipate stakeholders’ needs and build analytical competencies to support product development and process optimization across the wide SABIC portfolio.
The individual must have the ability to work seamlessly across multiple research centers and engage with business units around the globe, define and lead analytical research and development projects, shape global analytical technology strategy, create innovation platforms and provide subject matter expertise as well as establish external collaborations with key universities and third parties.
- Define and execute short, medium and long term-plans for development of internal analytical competencies in line with strategic business objectives. While all areas of Analytical Science / Materials & Chemicals characterization are in scope, a special focus should be given to microscopy, morphology and physical characterization of polymer materials and composites.
- Actively engage with their network of internal and external stakeholders in order to foster ideation and innovation in the Analytical Sciences
-Provide expert technical advice in analytical characterization acting as mentor for the Global Analytical Science team and as a key advisor for internal customers
- Act as a role model in both project management and knowledge sharing/retention. Assist in coaching other scientists in these areas.
- Provide advice and expertise related to strategic, external collaboration projects involving multiple R&D functions
-Engage the wider SABIC Global Analytical Science organization to facilitate sharing and translation of best practices
MINIMUM EDUCATION/BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS
-PhD in Analytical Chemistry or other technology relevant fields with strong emphasis on Analytical Characterization and Materials Science.
-At least 15 years post academic industrial experience in chemicals/materials characterization and analytical technology development in an industrial R&D environment
-Broad knowledge of analytical techniques in the areas of microscopy, morphology, elemental analysis, chromatography and spectroscopy; especially for the characterization of petrochemical products.
-Proven track record of working across all levels of the R&D organization ranging from junior scientists to business leaders
-Strong record of contributions to the broader scientific community (e.g. journal articles, scientific conference presentations)
-Proven track record of executing on R&D projects and delivering results to the business
-Ability to work independently on multiple projects with high enthusiasm and drive
-Excellent English spoken and written language skills
