CHIEF SCIENTIST PROCESS – T&I POLYMERS POLYETHYLENE TECHNOLOGY

SABIC`s Technology (T&I, TM) network consists of more than 1500 employees across six research- and ten application centers around the world. The technology organization supports SABIC’s global businesses in realizing its objectives by providing Best-In-Class Technology solutions. Within the SABIC T&I PE Global Technology division, we develop and implement novel catalyst systems, competitive processes, and differentiated products and applications. Our HDPE Surry Team –focused on HDPE and & UHMwPE platforms- has an opening for a Lead Scientist to strengthen the competence of Polymer Chemistry at the SABIC Technology Center in Geleen (NL)

JOB PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES

As Chief Scientist Process you will be working on the development & implementation of innovation programs within the PE slurry business (including HDPE uni/bi/multimodal & UH), with global impact in existing and future Assets for SABIC. Your tasks and responsibilities include:

  • To enhance polyolefin production processes & product performance in terms of output, quality, consistency and costs.
  • To work in a multidisciplinary setting within the Technology & Innovation organization where you will collaborate with different disciplines in the business and manufacturing environment where project approval, execution and implementation need to be secured.
  • To define, execute and manage development projects. You have to align goals and priorities and identify the activities and resources needed to achieve these goals.
  • To develop and communicate a vision of new developments in polyolefin process technologies.
  • To serve as technology Leader –within the Process competence, to secure know-how, technology transfer, and knowledge transfer across SABIC Technology centers.

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Master’s Degree or Equivalent (ideally Postgrad or equivalent) in Manufacturing, Chemical or Process Engineering and/or related Degree of study
  • Excellent Conceptual, Communication and Analytical Skills
  • Fluency (both written and Oral) in English (additional European language(s) would be a bonus)
  • In depth knowledge of interconnecting Business Units and Functions across Industry
  • Excellent presentation and network skills
  • Proficiency in IT/various connecting IT systems such as Office, SAP, reporting, etc
  • Experience with working in multi cultural and diverse environment and influencing and engaging at senior management level
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in industrial polyolefin processes, or other related industrial process engineering research. Experience in PE technologies –especially PE slurry technologies is a plus.
  • You are proficient in reactor engineering, kinetic modeling, design and operation of unit operations and the use of computational tools for the design and flow sheeting of polymer production processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in predictive modeling, statistics, machine learning to collect, explore and extract insight from structured and unstructured data. Experience with statistical applications in chemistry and engineering.
  • You are able to maintain a network with Universities and institutes within the polyolefin field, setting up and keeping external collaborations.
  • You are able to set up and maintain collaborations with other companies as technology suppliers or and cooperation’s with e.g. Joint Venture partners.
  • You are a critical observer as well as a conceptual and analytical thinker.
  • You are able to spot opportunities for existing and new processes and products and translate these into value propositions for the business.
  • You are able to present your project proposals and results in a convincing manner to both business and manufacturing management.
  • You are able to keep up-to-date with state of the art Technology and processe(s) in catalyst/process technologies
  • You are a team player but you are also able to work independently on your contribution.
  • You have a persevering and challenging attitude towards your work environment, but you can also accept other views.

Location: Chemelot-Geleen, The Netherlands

Travel: 25% (regionally and globally)
