Job Description

As a Data Steward, you are a key player in supporting Research Data Management (RDM) for the researchers within your faculty, in this case, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. In this role, you will work closely with researchers, assisting them in enhancing the quality and value of their research data throughout every stage of its lifecycle. This ranges from guiding data collection and management, helping in proper publication, to ensuring secure, long-term storage. You will champion the reusability of data, facilitate access, and provide comprehensive support in data-related activities. As a part of the centrally located Data Stewardship Services team at the University Library, you will collaborate with fellow Data Stewards to enhance support for FAIR data use and FAIR software, utilising your expertise to advance RDM practices.

You will be engaged in:

  • Further developing training programs and enhancing our existing research data management (RDM) training catalogue.
  • Guiding researchers in creating high-quality data and metadata.
  • Advising researchers and collaborating with partners to implement the FAIR principles across various digital research products.
  • Guiding researchers in making their data available in suitable data repositories.
  • Supporting researchers in crafting a comprehensive Data Management Plan.
  • Providing guidance on ethical considerations and compliance, including GDPR.
  • Promoting Open Science principles within the research community.

Requirements

Conclude with a sentence We are looking for you if you are a proactive team player who can work independently and is able to translate complex data principles into understandable guidelines and training for a non-expert audience. You are able to connect the needs of researchers, legal requirements, and policy ambitions concerning research data management with solutions from data stewardship and ICT.

Furthermore, you have:

  • A master’s degree and experience in conducting academic research, preferably in the social science or humanities.
  • An Open Science mindset and a thorough understanding of FAIR research data management, especially for qualitative data.
  • Familiarity with controlled vocabularies, ontologies, and annotation tools, particularly in the social sciences and humanities.
  • Experience with developing and delivering training programs.
  • A good command of the Dutch and English language and strong interpersonal skills.

What we offer

As Research data steward at Universiteits Bibliotheek, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 according to UFO profile Data Steward, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3226,00 and €5090,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
