We seek to hire a self-propelling category manager Logistics, with a strong drive for results. A team player who can make the connection between our logistical business needs and our suppliers, to deliver an outstanding logistical performance at acceptable costs.
The challenge will be to manage several modalities for in a dynamic business environment.
Key objective of position
The task of the Category Manager Logistics is to carry out commercial and strategic aspects of logistics purchasing for rail, road, inland barging, storage & marine services for the caprolactam and ammonium sulphate activities of Fibrant.
Annual spend in this category is ± €40-50m annually. This includes acting as buyer for and taking a lead on:
- Rail tank car rental and rail traction
- Road truck transportation
- Intermodal transport (ISO Container) with a focus on Europe
- Inland barging (dry bulk and liquid)
- Containerized sea freight (global)
- External bulk storage and warehousing
- Packaging (pallets, bagging, drums etc.)
- Various other logistic services (e.g. LSP’s 4PL) as may arise
The category manager works closely and in cooperation with all stakeholder functions, such as supply chain management, plant management, marketing & sales management and legal.
Principal Accountabilities
Strategic Purchasing
- As a category buyer, develop and execute sourcing strategies for assigned logistics category
- To seek synergy/leverage for the purchase of allocated categories generating the optimal TCO for the business. Such leverage may be internally or with other businesses in the Chemelot site
- To ensure that all business needs are understood and included in strategy determination
- To manage the relationships with our strategic logistical partners
- To have a broad understanding of logistic markets, and
- To have specific experience and skills in the negotiation of logistic contracts
Commercial Purchasing
- To develop negotiate, monitor and manage supply agreements in line with the approved/agreed purchasing plans
- To evaluate and select suppliers
- To set up and manage supplier performance, and initiate improvement programs where needed
- To manage the portfolio of contracts and to ensure that all relevant spend is covered with up to date agreements
Activities and Responsibilities
- Negotiate all logistics related contracts
- Early warning/notification of significant transport price trends/changes
- Establishes long-term agreements with logistic suppliers
- Is responsible for the implementation of the deals and contracts established
- Is responsible for the setup, approval and evaluation system for logistic suppliers
- Responsible for the up to date logistics information in the appropriate systems
- Make and analyze reports for purchasing & supply chain management
- Ears and eyes in the market for new logistical developments and opportunities
Job Requirements/Candidate Profile
- Bachelor or Master’s degree (or equivalent through experience)
- Working Experience: >5 years relevant working experience, including strategic purchasing and experience in logistics/supply chain, preferably with an understanding of ADR requirements and the chemical industry
- Language Skills: fluent in English. Additional languages are an asset
- Familiar with working in project environment (will act as project manager for own projects) and applying MOC approach
